The Sharjah Art Museum has a collection of modern and contemporary art by artists from United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries. It is a popular venue that hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year. It is one of the largest Art Museums in the United Arab Emirates and features a permanent collection that includes valuable artwork of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and works by artists who painted the Arab world.Â
The main attraction is the artworks by 18th century artists who visited the Middle East and painted down their fascination which was basically influenced by the natural environment, architecture and the culture of the region. From Saturday – Thursday it is open from 8am-8pm and on Fridays it is only open from 4pm-8pm.
Sharjah is a shopping paradise for the shopaholics. The Central Market in Sharjah is the most famous landmark in the city as tourists flock here to grab a souvenir. It is also an architectural marvel as its intricate blue tile work on the exterior is appreciated by all the visitors. It has also earned it the nickname ‘the Blue Souk’. There are approximately 600 shops in the Central Market with specific sections for gold and jewellery, perfume, clothing, food, electronics and gift items.
The top floor of the Central Market gives a feeling of an authentic Arabian bazaar with vendors selling antiques, carpets, Omani and Yemeni jewellery and an array of exotic souvenirs. From Saturday-Thursday it is open from 9am-1pm and 4pm-11pm while on Fridays it is open from 9am-12 noon and 4pm-11pm.
The Sharjah Aquarium was opened in the year 2008 to offer a unique experience of the marine life to its visitors. If you are in Sharjah it is a must visit destination as it gives you an opportunity to explore the fascinating hidden world of the deep blue sea along with its amazing inhabitants. Observe these beautiful creatures up-close and remain awestruck at the creation of Mother Nature. It also gives you a lot of information about the local marine biosphere and about Sharjah’s historic coasts and ports.
The Sharjah Aquarium features more than 150 species that include the beautiful clownfish, seahorses, moray eels, sea rays and reef sharks. It is open from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm from Saturday to Thursday and on Fridays it is open from 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm.
